Senior BI Developer
The Opportunity
Footasylum is a leading UK-based retailer specialising in streetwear and sportswear, committed to delivering innovative and trend-setting products to our customers, with a strong focus on digital transformation and data-driven decision-making.
We’re looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Developer to join our Data team. The role supports all teams across Footasylum, ranging from Stores and Merch to Profit Protection and the Warehouse. We also maintain several datasets on Power BI which are used by the business via connections to Excel sheets to allow for detailed ad hoc analysis. Having recently migrated our Data tech stack at Footasylum on to Azure Databricks and Power BI from SQL Server and SSRS, we have a large suite of reports which surface the data that the business needs to answer their key questions.
The Team
The data team is an enabling team and as such it is important to note that we are a key function for all other teams across the business. We consist of two teams – Business Intelligence Developers and Data Engineering – who work closely alongside each other from end to end. We design solutions together and share best practice. Within the teams we recognise individual skillsets and encourage knowledge sharing sessions and self-development.
What you will do
At Footasylum we see reports as ever-evolving projects, and strive to produce intuitive, interactive documents which provide one version of the truth. As a team, alongside supporting the rest of Footasylum with projects and new developments we have several internal goals which you will help us achieve:
· You will design reports to allow users to be confident in their findings and to make business decisions based on data driven insights.
· You will identify and fix bugs within existing reports and communicate the impact to results.
· You will work alongside the Data Engineering team to identify bugs and provide requirements for views and tables in the data warehouse.
· You will support the Data Analyst role in providing guidance on data sources, process and technical design solutions.
· You will support the Principal BI Developer & Data Enablement Manager in planning and prioritising the work to be completed each sprint.
· You will perform regular health checks on the Power BI service and identify improvements to be made each month.
· You will reduce CPU on large datasets and reports to improve user experience.
· You will identify opportunities to automate manual business reporting, plan and co-ordinate as mini projects.
· You will work proactively with product and business teams to identify important questions and help them answer these with data, delivering an insight service to the business through fit for purpose solution.
About you
We are looking for a driven individual who has a keen eye for detail and strives to ensure that they produce accurate information through visually appealing reporting. You will be comfortable liaising with technical teams to understand how business processes reflect in the data produced and are able to relay this back to senior stakeholders at executive level in business terminology.
This is a very exciting opportunity for someone who has:
· Excellent SQL skills
· Excellent Power BI skills including Power Query and DAX
· Great experience with report level parameters in Power BI
· Great analytical skills in analysing new data sets and understanding their value
· Good experience with Git
· Experience with large datasets and tabular models
· Great understanding of analysis cube models and incremental refresh policies
· Good experience with Tabular Editor, DAX Studio and ALM Toolkit
· A love for problem solving
· A drive to continuously improve existing processes
· Confidence in bringing new ideas to the team
· Ability to support more junior team members with technical training, show and tell sessions and peer programming
· Good knowledge of data governance, data protection, and GDPR
· Great organisational skills and good experience with Azure DevOps
· Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills to Exec level
· Confidence presenting results and delivering training sessions to a range of stakeholders
· Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment alongside evolving the data tech stack and practices
